Nigerian FM urges coordinated global efforts to fight Ebola

Nigerian foreign minister Aminu Bashir Wali on Thursday urged the international community to act together in coordinated efforts against the Ebola epidemic.

While addressing an annual ambassadors' conference in Ankara, he said the fight against the deadly Ebola disease can not be won through isolation of affected countries.

To put Ebola away, global support should be sustainable, he said, noting that Nigeria has sent 500 voluntary health officers to the region.

"No country can isolate itself from the Ebola disease," he said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Nigeria Ebola-free in late October after six weeks of no new cases of the highly-contagious disease since Aug. 31.

Nearly 5,000 people were killed in the latest outbreak of the Ebola epidemic, which spreads through body fluids, according to WHO reports. Endit
