Wen Vows to Ensure Products Safe for All

Premier Wen Jiabao pledged on Saturday that his government would work hard to ensure China produces safe products for both its people and the rest of the world.

He was commenting about the tainted milk powder case during a question and answer session at the opening ceremony of the Summer Davos forum in Tianjin.

"The incident is not over yet ... My government and I will lead our people through this hard journey," he said..

"It's not just food or dairy ... we will make the entire 'Made in China' brand worry-free with reputable products for both the Chinese and the people across the world," Wen said.

"China did not intend to cover the truth when the incident occurred. Instead, it faced the matter honestly and tried to solve the problem," said Wen.

The premier said he was much moved when he saw a European Union Trade Commissioner drink a cup of Chinese milk on Friday to show his trust for made-in-China products.

He said the tainted milk scandal showed the country was not only weak in production monitoring but needed to attach greater importance to the morality, business ethics, and social conscience of companies.

He promised China would accelerate upgrading of the food production industry.
