Local health officials reported on Tuesday that two more californians had died of the A/H1N1 flu virus, bringing the death toll to 25 in the west coast state.

San Diego County public health officer Wilma Wooten announced that a 50-year-old woman infected with A/H1N1 flu had died on June 29.

"This is an unfortunate incident. Our thoughts are with the friends and family of this individual," said Wooten, urging individuals with underlying medical conditions to see their primary care physicians if they have flu symptoms.

County Health and Human Services Agency spokesman Jose Alvarez said the woman had an underlying medical condition and the flu created extra medical stress on her body.

Meanwhile, Utah health officials reported on Tuesday that a California man had died of A/H1N1 flu in a Salt Lake City hospital recently.

Dr. Rick Almaguer, public health officer of Elko County, Utah state, said the California man was first admitted to Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital and subsequently transported to a Salt Lake City hospital.

Almaguer did not have the exact date of the death of the California man, but said he suffered from severe respiratory problems roughly two weeks ago.

As of Tuesday morning, the California Department of Health reported 1,989 confirmed and probable cases of A/H1N1 flu, including 23 deaths.

Nationwide, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last Thursday reported 170 deaths in 23 states and 33,902 confirmed and probable cases of A/H1N1 flu in all the 50 states plus the District of Columbia and US territory Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands.
