Another case of the pandemic influenza A/H1N1 virus was confirmed on Friday, bringing Fiji's total number of confirmed cases to six.

This was confirmed by Fiji Health Ministry's chief adviser for communicable disease, Eric Rafai, on Friday. Spread of the virus, which is more contagious than the common flu, was expected by health authorities who are working with all stakeholders on containing it.

Of the six confirmed cases, five are from the western part of Fiji's main island, while one is in the capital, Suva.

Ministry of Health spokesman Iliesa Tora said some of the affected have had a history of recent travel.

The World Health Organization donated 157,000 Tamiflu tablets and more than 50,000 of personal protective equipment to Fiji's health ministry on Friday.
