Egypt reported on Monday another case of A/H1N1 virus, bringing the total number of such infections in the populous country to 40, according to Ministry of Health.

The new case is a 13-year-old child who came to Egypt with her family from the United States on Saturday, spokesman of Health Ministry Abdel Rahman Shahine said in a statement.

Shahine said that the girl is a sister to another case. She was hospitalized and her condition is stable. He added that 28 cases in Egypt have recovered up till now and there are still 12 cases in hospitals.

On Sunday, Egypt reported five cases of the new virus all coming from the United States and Canada.

On June 2, Egypt reported its first A/H1N1 influenza case, which was a 12-year-old Egyptian-American girl coming from the United States via the Netherlands.

Egypt, the most populous Arab country that was hit hard by the fatal bird flu in 2006, decided in late April to cull all pigs in the country to stem the highly infectious flu.

According to World Health Organization, the number of reported cases of A/H1N1 influenza has reached 52,160 on Monday across the world, including 231 deaths.
