Two US nationals who flew from Los Angeles to Tokyo have been confirmed as infected with the A/H1N1 strain of influenza, marking the latest cases of infection in Japan.
The two -- a father in his 30s and his son aged under 10 -- took a Singapore Airlines flight that arrived at Narita International Airport near Tokyo on Monday afternoon and have been admitted to a nearby hospital, according to the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry.
Ministry officials said 260 people were aboard the flight, of whom 34 were in close contact with the two. Of the 34, 16 entered Japan and 18 transferred flights.
Including the two US citizens, the number of new-flu infections in Japan stood at 352 in eight prefectures as of Tuesday evening, according to Kyodo News.
