Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Friday urged Malaysians to have confidence in the authorities to handle the first Influenza A (HINI) case in the country.
The Malaysian Health Ministry, which had much experience during the Avian Flu (H5N1) epidemic before, has the experience in tackling such cases, he told reporters in Malacca City of the Malacca State.
The Health Ministry would follow the same protocol on the Influenza A epidemic like they did in containing the bird flu, he was quoted as saying by Malaysia's national news agency Bernama.
Earlier Friday, the Malaysian Health Ministry confirmed that a 21-year-old Malaysian student who had just returned from the United States on Wednesday, had tested positive for Influenza A.
It was the first confirmed case of such in the country.
The student was quarantined for anti-viral treatment at the Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor, several kilometers northwest of capital Kuala Lumpur.
