Panama reported 15 confirmed cases of A/H1N1 flu on Sunday, becoming the country with the biggest number of confirmed cases in Central America.
Among the 12 newly increased cases on Sunday, 10 have had contacts with the first A/H1N1 flu patient in Panama, Health Minister Rosario Turner told a press conference.
The 15 confirmed A/H1N1 flu sufferers, including nine adults and six children, have been quarantined at home and have taken antiviral medicines, she added.
Panama's Heath Ministry confirmed on Friday the country's first case of A/H1N1 flu, a young man who traveled to the United States recently.
As part of the country's contingency measures to contain the spread of the virus, more than 129,000 children and 192,000 elderly people have been vaccinated against the flu over the weekend.
Panama is the fourth country in Central America to have confirmed A/H1N1 flu cases after Costa Rica, El Salvador and Guatemala.
The Panamanian government also purchased 70,000 doses of Tamiflu and established a fund of US$5 million against the epidemic.
