An elderly woman who had A/H1N1 flu has died in Canada's Alberta province, the first such death in the country if confirmed, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) reported on Thursday.

It was not known if the woman had other underlying conditions, but she did have the virus at the time she died, the CBC report said, without providing any sources.

The news has not been confirmed by health officials. Nobody has answered Xinhua calls to the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Alberta Health and Wellness spokesperson.

The total of Canada's confirmed A/H1N1 flu cases now stands at 214, the Public Health Agency of Canada said in its latest update Thursday. Nearly all cases have been mild.
