Ecuadorian Health Minister Caroline Chang on Monday rejected the prohibition of aerial operations due to possible cases of influenza A (H1N1), yet said flights of national airlines will be limited only at the international airports of Quito and Guayaquil.
The airline Military Aerial Transports of Ecuador (TAME) reported in a Sunday statement it canceled flights from Ecuador’s northwestern city of Esmeraldas to Colombia's city of Cali due to sanitary orders.
As a caution measure, TAME temporarily canceled three weekly flights between Esmeraldas and Cali.
Xavier Andrade, Chief of the Business Unit of TAME in Esmeraldas, said the Direction of Civil Aviation suspended the trans-bordering flights as the Health Ministry ordered.
Chang said that TAME and other companies can work, but only at the international airports of Quito and Guayaquil.
She rejected 19 possible cases of human flu and announced that 50,000 dosages of antiviral medicine as a preventive measure will reach the country next Friday.
Chang also said that Ecuador has taken "some restriction measures, but it has not prohibited passengers coming from Mexico and U.S. from entering Ecuador."
The Ecuadorian government declared on Wednesday a state for 60 days to face the possible entrance of the human flu virus. It also suspended charter flights with Mexico.
