Leader Proposes Thailand to Host ASEAN Public Health Meeting to Prevent Swine Flu Outbreak

Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary Generalof the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Wednesday has proposed Thailand to host an ASEAN public health meeting as preparation to deal with the possible swine outbreak in the region.

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva already discussed about the meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who has agreed with the idea, Witthaya Kaewparadai, Thai Minister of Public Health said on Wednesday.

The ASEAN Secretary General has been assigned to coordinate with other ASEAN country members concerning the planned meeting, said Witthaya.

"It is expected that the meeting will take place next week," said the Thai Minister, Thai-language news agency INN reported.
