South Korean president Lee Myung-bak said Wednesday South Korea will present an alternative for a "new world order" as a host of the G20 economic summit to be held in November 2010.
"We will present a vision and hope for the new economic order, including an exist strategy for the current economic crisis, in the next year's meeting, the president said in a special press conference on the outcome of his recent participation in the third G20 economic summit in Pittsburgh, the United States.
"The G20 economic summit will become a key organization that deals with diverse various issues along with economic matters, such as energy, natural resources, climate change, famine, and poverty," Lee said.
He also called the G20 "the utmost cooperation body for sustainable, balanced growth" and "the hub of the new world order in the post-crisis era."
South Korea, which has only taken a passive role in the past, has become one of the leading members in the international community, advancing to the center of the world from a far, remote region in Asia, President Lee said.
"Let us turn our hosting of the G20 summit next year into a chance to clearly upgrade the status of our nation not only in the economic sector, but also in the legal, ethical, political and cultural areas," he added.
