Oman beat Hong Kong, China 3-0 to reach the quarterfinals of the Asian Games soccer tournament here on Monday.
Oman opened the scoring after 30 minutes when forward Abdallah Al Saadi Waleed forced Hong Kong's captain Chan Wai Ho into a bad clearance that fell to the feet of Ali Farah Hadhri Hussain, who scored with a powerful strike.
After the restart, Hussian scored his second goal of the match with a free-kick that flew around the wall to make it 2-0 for Oman.
Hussain was involved in his side's third goal when his free-kick found Aman Bait Nasib to head the ball to the net, which put the game out of reach for Hong Kong on 68 minutes.
Hong Kong, who have not reached the quarterfinals since 1966 Bangkok Asiad, failed to continue its stunning form in its group stage when they clinched two wins and a draw.
Oman will play Iran, who beat Malaysia 3-1 in another 1/8 final in the afternoon.
