China trounced Jordan 10-1 in their group opener in the Asian Games women's soccer tournament here on Sunday.

Two goals apiece from Ma Jun, Qu Shanshan, Li Lin and Xu Yuan fired the host to top Group A with three points, nine goals difference. South Korea followed China in the group after they thrashed Vietnam 6-1 earlier in the day.

The lopsided-game lost any doubt just after 17 minutes when the host had led with a dominating 4-0 margin.

Captain Qu Shanshan twice struck half a meter in front of area, seeing her strikes powerful enough to beat the visitor's keeper Ramounieh Misda twice.

Jordan, who lost three of their group games at the Doha Asian Games, including a 12-0 defeat to China, could hardly pose any threats to the host until 19th minute.

Jbarah Maysa netted deftly on her side's first shot after Chinese keeper Zhang Yanru surged imprudently out of area. Zhang failed to clear the ball away but left the goalmouth open to Maysa.

After the restart, China, leading in 6-1, achieved four more goals in the rest of the minutes.

There are seven teams in total competing in this two-group tournament. The top two of each group will advance to semifinals.

China will take on Vietnam on Tuesday while South Korea play Jordan.
