UN Climate Chief Says China Poised to Take Lead

On the eve of the UN summit on climate change, the UN climate chief, Yvo de Boer says world leaders should speed up negotiations for a new global climate deal. Yvo de Boer, says countries experienced severe impact of climate change, and the world needs to reach a deal in Copenhagen this December to replace the Kyoto Protocol.

The UN climate chief also says China is ahead of the US with domestic plans for more energy efficiency, renewable sources of power, cuts in vehicle pollution and closures of dirty plants. The UN hopes Tuesday's summit will break a deadlock between rich and developing countries on how the global burden in cutting emissions should be shared.
