The Singapore government has announced three new measures aiming to develop Singapore's manpower capabilities, local media reported on Sunday.
According to local radio 938live, Singapore's Ministry of Manpower said that the measures will enable companies to cut costs, save jobs and build up capabilities for the future.
First, raising the absentee payroll cap for workers sent for government supported training programs, which will provide greater support for employers, especially those who send their employees for training.
Second, a two-year program which aims to encourage recruitment and retention of worker trainees. Under the program, companies can receive a grant of up to 5,000 Singapore dollars (about US$3,300) per worker, or up to 400,000 Singapore dollars (about US$267,000) per company, to co-fund costs incurred in recruitment and training.
Third, a professional skills program traineeships scheme for companies to build new capabilities in growth sectors. The traineeships will offer fresh graduates and retrenched white collars the opportunities to be equipped with relevant work experience to enhance their employability.
