The Greek Employment Ministry will very soon table measures to curb unemployment, giving the opportunity to the unemployed, who wish to work at the municipalities and the public sector, to find a job.

The program is directed to 60,000 people who were sacked, 20,000 of which will be hired in municipalities and 40,000 in the public and wider sector in general for 36 months, according to Greek National TV channel NET on Monday.

Employment Minister Fani Palli Petralia is concluding her contacts with Central Association of Cities and Communities of Greece (KEDKE) to determine the exact number of positions, so that unemployed can be hired.

At the same time, the approval of stage programs that will allow 12,000 unemployed to be hired in the public sector has begun.

In parallel, Greek Manpower Organization (OAED) programs that will subsidize hotels to hire again their seasonal personnel are being hammered out.

Hotels that will commit themselves that they will hire on three-forths and three-fifths of the same number of employees they had in the respective months last year will join the program.

In the case the hotel reduces its staff, then the program will be interrupted for the same number of positions as the number of employees reduced, while the subsidy will have to be returned.

In an attempt to retain their personnel and hire more unemployed, OAED has planned training programs within enterprises that will be firstly implemented in private enterprises.

The unemployment rate in Greece was recorded at 8.9 percent in December last year, with the unemployed number reached 434,149, according to the figures from Greek National Statistical Service.
