The Lebanese army and the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were reported to be jointly carrying out in-depth search operations for suspicious objects in South Lebanon's eastern sector, the state-run National news agency reported on Wednesday.
The Lebanese-UN joint force searched the outskirts of Kfar Hamam, Kfar Shouba, Rashaya al-Fukhar and Habariyeh, said the report, adding a bulldozer was used to open field roads and around 15 armored vehicles were seen backing in the searched areas.
The eastern sector of south Lebanon was the base used last week for launching rockets against northern Israel.
The rocket launching prompted an Israeli response of firing back artillery shells over the regions, thus raising fear of renewed confrontation along the Lebanese-Israeli borders.
Israel and Hezbollah fought a 34-day devastating war in 2006.
