China Adopts Food Safety Law

China's top legislature on Saturday approved the Food Safety Law, providing a legal basis for the government to ensure food safety "from the production line to dining table."
The law will see the establishment of a monitoring and supervision system, a set of national standards on food safety, a recall system, and severe punishment for offenders.
The National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee gave green light to the law at a bimonthly session ending here Saturday, following a spate of food scandals.
