The Rudo Ski Resort of the Xizang autonomous region recently began welcoming visitors to its snowy slopes for its inaugural season.

The resort, nestled in the picturesque Maldrogungkar county of the regional capital Lhasa, marked its grand opening with a flurry of winter sports activities on Dec 21.

Organized by the regional sports bureau, the region's 2024 ice and snow sports promotion event attracted around 400 officials and employees from governmental bodies and businesses as participants.

Participants reveled in the exhilarating experiences, with first-timers like Chodron expressing sheer delight at the proximity of such diverse winter activities to Lhasa.

"I have heard from friends that ice and snow sports are popular in other provinces and very interesting, but I never had the chance to experience them," Chodron was quoted as saying by China Xizang Online.

"Today, being able to experience so many activities in a place so close to Lhasa makes me very happy," she said. "These sports are fun and challenging, and it's worth coming here to experience them."

Beyond skiing, the resort caters to a spectrum of snow-based adventures, including snow tank rides, snowmobile escapades, snow tubing, introductory snowboarding and freestyle skiing.
