The Caohai Wetland of Weining county, under the administration of Bijie, Guizhou province, is the easternmost wintering habitat for black-necked cranes in China. Every October, large flocks of black-necked cranes arrive as scheduled, mainly inhabiting the shallow water marshes on the east, south and southwest banks of Caohai Lake.
