Lianjiang city, Guangdong province, has been promoting the cooperative Guangdong-Guangxi pairing work that it has been engaging in with Rongshui Miao Autonomous County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in recent years. Currently focusing on consolidating and building upon the poverty alleviation achievements that have been made in the county and attempting to integrate them with rural vitalization in an effective manner, the two areas have been assisting with the development of various industries, providing labor services and training, launching consumption-oriented drives, and creating and enlarging social programs. Ten of Lianjiang’s towns and sub-districts, 21 of its villages, and 27 enterprises headquartered in the administrative area are currently paired with 79 of Rongshui’s villages, and 8 of the city’s schools and 3 of its hospitals are assisting schools and hospitals in the autonomous county.
In September 2017, Lianjiang signed a cooperative poverty alleviation framework agreement with Rongshui, pledging to do its best to help the autonomous county meet its development needs. The arrangement has advanced east-west poverty alleviation-oriented cooperation in China, which refers to the concept of administrative areas in the eastern part of the country assisting those in the west, and Rongshui successfully emerged from poverty at the end of 2020.
