Eleven years ago, children in Sanzhiyang Elementary School of Du'an Yao Autonomous County in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, grew up on a diet of steamed rice and soybean, one of the few things that would grow there. Back then, malnutrition was common among students.
In 2011, local authorities launched a nutrition improvement plan for rural students, which provides nutritious meals for students in schools like Sanzhiyang. Today, Sanzhiyang Elementary School's well equipped canteen is serving balanced meals to ensure the health and physique of its students.
Sanzhiyang Elementary School has continuously improved its infrastructure by building new teaching and dormitory buildings, toilets and playgrounds, etc. The number of its students has nearly doubled in recent years.
