Cypriot gov't warns public of fake president Twitter account

Xinhua,May 30, 2018 Adjust font size:

NICOSIA, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The Cypriot government said on Wednesday that hackers have created fake accounts of President Nicos Anastasiades and warned people not to be misled.

"These accounts have nothing to do with the president of the republic or the government," a statement issued by the government said.

It said that in some cases the hackers appropriated the status of the president and caused mistaken impressions and on occasion asked for money under various pretexts.

"We ask the public to be especially careful regarding these phenomena. Those cases detected have been reported to the police who will take appropriate action," it added.

Anastasiades's real Twitter address is @AnastasiadesCY with a ragged blue circle and a checkmark in it to denote that it has been certified as genuine. Enditem
