India test fires BrahMos cruise missile

NEW DELHI, May 21 (Xinhua) -- India on Monday successfully conducted the first test of the BrahMos cruise missile aimed at increasing its life from 10 to 15 years, Indian Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman confirmed.

The missile was test fired from a mobile launcher from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur along the eastern state of Odisha's coast, according to sources in the Defence Research and Development Organization.

Sitharaman congratulated the successful launch on twitter.

The Indian Army has inducted three regiments of BrahMos in its arsenal. The land-attack version of BrahMos was operationalized in the Indian Army in 2007. Enditem
