JERUSALEM, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Israel security forces arrested five Palestinians in the West Bank overnight Sunday on suspicion of involvement in terror activities and violent disturbances.

During army operation, dozens of protesters set tires alight and threw rocks at security forces, said the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in a statement on Monday.

The IDF responded with crowd control methods and the suspects were transferred for questioning by security forces, said the statement.

In addition, the Israeli police arrested three suspects involved in Sunday's evening disturbances near the Damascus gate area in Jerusalem.

Stones were thrown at police there at the scene and fire works were fired at officers that were on patrol, said the Israeli police in a statement on Monday.

The three suspects aged 20, 21 and 17 will appear before the courts later Monday.

Regular police operations continue in Jerusalem in order to prevent incidents and disturbances from taking place, added the Israeli police. Enditem
