ABUJA, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Nine people were killed early Wednesday in a fresh attack by gunmen in Nigeria's northeastern state of Taraba, a police spokesman said.
Three others were wounded in the attack in Tutuwa community located in Ussa area of the state, according to David Misal, the police spokesman.
Misal said local residents were on their way to a church for early morning prayers when the gunmen unleashed terror on them.
The gunmen fled the scene before the arrival of security operatives in Ussa area of the state, said Rimansikwe Karma, head of Ussa local government area.
Karma said two persons are missing following the attack.
On Jan. 8, at least a dozen people were killed in apparent tit-for-tat clashes between Christians and Muslims in Taraba.
There has been a long-running dispute over land, exacerbated by religious and ethnic tensions that have killed thousands in recent years in Taraba. Enditem
