KAMPALA, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's national cricket team has qualified to the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League Division III after it topped the Division IV table in an ongoing tournament in Malaysia.
The team put up a good performance in the ICC World Cricket League Division IV when they topped the table with eight points out of the six teams.
In a game that did not get completed on Saturday because of rain interruption, the Ugandan team returned to beat Jersey by 7 runs. After the interruption ICC used the Duckworth and Lewis Method (DLS) to reduce the runs from Jersey's initial 126/10 to 83. Uganda went on to put on 90 all out to beat Jersey 83 all out by 7 runs.
Uganda started the tournament with a narrow loss to hosts Malaysia before they defeated Bermuda, Denmark, Vanuatu and Jersey.
Denmark who finished second with six points also gained promotion to Division III. Hosts Malaysia were unlucky that despite having the same number of points like Denmark, their Net run rate was lower.
"This is very good news because we are back to the higher Division after dropping last year," Martin Ondeko, the administrative Officer of the Uganda Cricket Association told Xinhua by telephone on Sunday.
Janet Museveni, Uganda's minister of education and sports in her twitter message hailed the team for its good performance. Enditem
