MANILA -- The finance ministers and central bank governors of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China, Japan and South Korea (ASEAN+3) on Friday reaffirmed their commitment to resisting "all forms of protectionism" as well as commitment to "an open and rules-based framework for multilateral trade."

"We also recognize the importance of resisting all forms of protectionism, enhancing integration through deepening intra-regional trade, investment linkages, and improving connectivity," they said in a joint statement at the end of the 21st ASEAN+3 finance ministers' and central bank governors' meeting. MANILA -- Philippine government troops have killed at least nine Abu Sayyaf militants in an airstrike in Sumisip town in the southern Philippine Basilan island province, the military reported on Friday.

The military said the firefight broke out around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday in a village in Sumisip town, sparking a 30-minute fighting between the troops and some 40 Abu Sayyaf extremists that resulted in the killing of the nine militants. (Philippines-Abu Sayyaf)

DHAKA -- Gunmen attacked mourners Friday at a funeral in Bangladesh's southeastern Chittagong Hill tracts, combining three hilly districts of Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachari, killing five people and injuring six others.

YANGON -- At least 12 people died and eight others injured due to a landslide in Hpakant mining region, Myanmar's Kachin state Friday before dawn, said a press release from the country's information ministry.
