FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Up to six security personnel and unknown number of militants have been killed in northern Badakhshan province over the past 24 hours as clash between security forces and Taliban outfit has been continuing in parts of the restive province, member of provincial council Ziaudin Wasiq said Wednesday.

Sporadic fighting, according to the official, has been continuing in Tishkan, Shuhada and Kohistan districts of Badakhshan since Taliban group launching annual offensive on April 25 in the war-battered Afghanistan.

The official also contended that several Taliban insurgents had also been killed in the fighting, but failed to provide a figure.

Taliban militants have intensified operations elsewhere in Afghanistan since launching their so-called spring offensive. However, the armed group, according to security officials, has failed to gain ground. Enditem
