Tokyo stocks close slightly lower on profit-taking ahead of holidays

TOKYO, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed marginally lower Wednesday as investors opted to secure profits ahead of the Golden Week holidays here following the Nikkei's recent gains.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 35.25 points, or 0.16 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 22,472.78.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged 2.66 points, or 0.15 percent, lower to finish at 1,771.52.

Oil and coal product, mining and air transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play. Enditem
