SEOUL, May 1 (Xinhua) -- South Korea posted trade surplus for 75 months to April despite a fall in exports for the first time in 18 months, a government report showed Tuesday.
Trade surplus was 6.61 billion U.S. dollars in April, staying in the black for the 77th consecutive month, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Exports, which account for about half of the export-driven economy, shed 1.5 percent from a year earlier to 50.06 billion dollars in April, after continuing to grow for the past 17 months.
Imports advanced 14.5 percent over the year to 43.45 billion dollars last month.
Despite the April fall, the outbound shipments increased 6.9 percent during the January-April period compared with the same period of last year. Enditem
