RIO DE JANEIRO, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Michel Temer on Monday asked unemployed citizens "not to lose hope" in an official statement for Labor Day.

"You, who are looking for a job, do not lose hope," the statement read. "The Brazilian economy is growing and more and more jobs and opportunities created every day."

Temer also criticized his opponents in the statement, saying, "While some people spend their time criticizing others, we devote ourselves to working."

The unemployment rate rose to 13.1 percent, and the jobless population reached 13.7 million in April. Enditem
