Chinese speaker calls for closer international cooperation on quality improvement

SEATTLE, April 30 (Xinhua) -- An improvement in quality not only helps increase economic efficiency but also advances living standards, a top Chinese delegate told a global quality conference here on Monday.

China has long called for deepening the interconnection of quality infrastructure and the sharing of best practices in quality management, Huang Guoliang, chief of the Chinese delegation, said in a keynote speech at the 2018 World Conference on Quality and Improvement hosted by American Society for Quality (ASQ).

Huang is the first Chinese representative ever invited to address the conference, which opened on Monday in the U.S. city of Seattle and ends on Wednesday.

Data is the key to quality innovation in the digital era, and with the rapid advancement of science and technology, countries are interdependent and have a high degree of integration of interests, he said.

Therefore, it is no longer necessary for each component of a product to be developed and manufactured by a single country itself, Huang said.

He noted that China stands for cooperation and win-win results in the field of quality work, and "we must respect intellectual property rights, share innovative achievements legally, and further promote innovation."

"All countries should share quality data, and to integrate all fragmented data. Great efforts should be made ... to fully tap and apply data resources and enhance data exchanges," Huang said.

Quality innovation requires the participation of all sectors of the global community, and governments, enterprises and consumers should work together to give play to the role of the market in order to improve innovation, he said.

The annual 2018 conference, a flagship event of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) themed with "the Innovation of YOU," has attracted more than 2,500 government officials, senior executives, entrepreneurs and professionals in the quality community from over 50 countries and regions.

A 50-person Chinese delegation is attending the three-day event to share their insights on global quality, innovation and disruptive technologies. Enditem
