HO CHI MINH CITY, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese police have detained a 27-year-old woman from southern Tay Ninh province for trafficking 16 local women to Malaysia, the provincial police said on Thursday.

Lam Thi Thao was detained at Tan Son Nhat international airport in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday when she was preparing to take three local women to Malaysia.

Thao confessed that from early 2017 till her arrest, she trafficked 16 Vietnamese women from such southern provinces as Tay Ninh, Dong Thap and Bac Lieu to Malaysia.

Thao told her victims that they would work in bars or karaoke lounges in Malaysia, but in fact they were forced to work as prostitutes.

Tay Ninh police are further investigating the human trafficking ring, and coordinating with relevant agencies to rescue Vietnamese victims in Malaysia. Enditem
