CAPE TOWN, April 26 (Xinhua) -- The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Thursday.

-- Deputy President David Mabuza managed to elude a prickly question on the governing party's view of the South African Reserve Bank and its role in ensuring economic stability, which could have seen him put off either investors or the African National Congress (ANC).

During his appearance to reply to questions in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Mabuza was replying to a question from ANC MP Mmathulare Coleman when supplementary questions came from Democratic Alliance MP David Maynier on the bank. (Fin24)

-- Deputy Finance Minister Mondli Gungubele said on Wednesday it could cost as much as 60 billion rand (about five billion U.S. dollars) to shut down South African Airways (SAA).

This is three times the amount that the cash-strapped airline needs to keep going and to restructure. (Eyewitness News)

-- Deputy President David Mabuza said on Wednesday that if the Indian Gupta family has done something wrong, they should be brought to book.
