Singapore stocks close 0.17 pct higher

SINGAPORE, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.17 percent, or 6.16 points, to close at 3,579.54.

A total of 1.57 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.14 billion Singapore dollars (about 864.8 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 215 to 156.

The STI index closed down 0.7 percent, or 25.35 points, to close at 3,573.38 last Friday. Enditem
