CAPE TOWN, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Saturday.

-- The family of a man who was shot dead in Mahikeng, North West Province on Thursday night is disputing the police's version that he was a robber on the run.

Thato Motale, 30, was shot on Thursday amid violent protests against North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo. Protesters are calling for Mahumapelo to step down as premier. (News24)

-- North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo is remaining mum on how he feels about violent protests against him and whether or not he is prepared to step Down.

The premier briefly spoke to the media after a marathon meeting with African National Congress top officials, the alliance partners and the party's provincial leaders. (Eyewitness News)

-- The mass funeral of five of the six Modikwa Platinum Mine employees killed when their bus was petrol-bombed earlier this month, will take place on Saturday.
