Xinhua,April 11, 2018 Adjust font size:

PRAGUE, April 10 (Xinhua) -- A 34-year-old psychiatric patient wounded two police officers on Tuesday morning in a asylum house of Domazlice, a town in southwest Czech Republic's Pilsen region.

The patient shot himself dead in the head.

A police spokesperson Martina Korandova said the police officers are in hospital and their lives are not at risk, and the assailant is to be transferred to another hospital facility due to a deterioration in the mental condition.

The shooting incident will be further investigated by the General Inspection of Security Forces (GIBS).

GIBS spokesman Ivo Mitacek reported on Tuesday that the shooting was made with the duty firearm of one of the policemen. He added that after evaluation of all facts it would be possible to confirm if GIBS should take over the case.

Jiri Lodr, owner of the mental asylum, said that the shooter had been a patient of the mental hospital since October 2016. Lodr characterized the patient as trouble-free and without any signs of aggression. He commented that it is unknown if the patient kept any personal gun.

Lodr added that the man had fully recovered. Last month, however, the patient refused to visit doctor and take medication. The condition worsened on Monday night, therefore, on Tuesday morning the mental health ambulance was called to help.

According to Andrea Divisova from the Regional Medical Emergency Service, the man did not want to cooperate with the medical crew members and refused to go to the ambulance. The police was called by the medical staff in order to assist them to escort the patient to the hospital. As they arrived, the policemen found that the man had escaped. The incident and shooting happened when the policemen started to follow the man. Enditem
