Xinhua,April 10, 2018 Adjust font size:

TOKYO, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as the market mood here turned positive.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 116.06 points, or 0.54 percent, from Monday to end the day at 21,794.32.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.06 points, or 0.35 percent, to finish at 1,731.94.

Market strategists here said that Chinese President Xi Jinping's remarks about further opening China's markets at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2018 on Tuesday morning were well received and bolstered foreign and domestic investor sentiment after trade got off to a choppy start.

Automaker-issues like Toyota and Honda and those specifically related to China, such as industrial robotics maker Fanuc advanced, local brokers said, following Xi's saying that tariffs on autos would be reduced.

Iron and steel, machinery and transportation equipment-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play, and rising issues beat declining ones by 1,129 to 873 on the First Section, with 80 ending the day unchanged.

On the main section on Tuesday, 1,468.66 million shares changed hands, rising from Monday's volume of 1,390.23 million shares.

The turnover on the second trading day of the week came to 2,703.4 billion yen (25.22 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
