Kenya's Obiri to run at Doha Diamond League

NAIROBI, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Hellen Obiri confirmed Tuesday she will compete at the Doha Diamond League meeting on May 4, just weeks after returning from the Commonwealth Games.

Obiri, who finished fourth at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, England at the start of March, will have a stiff challenge in her quest to reclaim the title she won last year in her way to winning the 5,000m race at the London World Championships.

"It true I will be running in Doha. I don't know how many more athletes will be there but am happy to announce my entry for the 3000m race at the Doha Diamond League," she said.

Obiri intends to run fast time as she pushes her body to the limit. "Last time I ran 8:20.68, I don't know what will this year bring," she added.

Obiri enjoyed an outstanding 2017 season, claiming the overall 5000m IAAF Diamond League title in Brussels following victories in Shanghai and Rome, as well as winning the 3000m in Monaco and taking a new meeting record over one mile in London.

Doha first staged a major athletics event in 1997 with the Doha Grand Prix, which was elevated to the Super Grand Prix in 2005. Enditem
