Profile: Namibian President Hage Geingob

BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Namibian President Hage Geingob will travel to China for a state visit from March 28 to April 3 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

Below is a profile of Geingob.

In his youth, Geingob participated in Namibia's national liberation movement seeking independence from German colonial rule.

Following the independence of Namibia in 1990, Geingob served as the southwestern African nation's prime minister for 12 consecutive years until 2002.

He was minister of trade and industry between 2008 and 2012, and again assumed the post of prime minster in 2012.

He was elected Namibian president in November 2014 and was sworn in in March 2015.

Geingob, 77, holds a master's degree in international relations from the New School in New York City, the United States, as well as a PhD in political science from the University of Leeds in Britain. Enditem
