Nikkei advances in morning after testimony denying Abe's role in cronyism scandal

TOKYO, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended gains Tuesday morning on relief after a former bureaucrat denied in sworn Diet testimony that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe or his top aides ordered documents about at shady land deal to be altered.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 344.58 points, or 1.66 percent, from Monday to 21,110.68.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 29.69 points, or 1.78 percent, at 1,701.01.

Real estate, nonferrous metal and electric appliance-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break. Enditem
