Large-scale security checks to be conducted in Russian regions after tragedy in Kemerovo

ST. PETERSBURG, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The Prosecutor General's Office of Russia instructed regional prosecutors to conduct inspections of compliance with fire safety legislation in every shopping complex in Russian regions.

TASS reported that the decision was made after the tragedy in the "Zimnyaya Vishnya" shopping center in Kemerovo, where fire killed at least 64 people.

A large fire occurred in the shopping center on Sunday. Fire alarm did not work, evacuation exits were closed, and thousands of people were trapped on the third and fourth floors.

A criminal case was instituted on causing death by negligence and violation of fire safety requirements. Enditem
