10 militants killed in accidental blast in Afghanistan

Xinhua,March 24, 2018 Adjust font size:

MAIMANA, Afghanistan, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Ten Taliban militants were killed and four others wounded in an accidental blast in Afghanistan's northern province of Faryab, an army source said Saturday.

The explosion took place roughly at 10:30 p.m. local time Friday, in Sar Hawz village, Pashton Kot district, south of provincial capital Maimana city, Hanif Rezai, a press officer of army Corps 209 Shaheen based in the region, told Xinhua.

The militants were busy in a compound in building improvised explosive devices (IEDs) when the blast occurred, he said, adding two Taliban bomb-making experts were among those killed.

Taliban militants and Islamic State fighters have been using IEDs to make roadside bombs and landmines for targeting security forces, but the lethal home-made weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.

The Taliban has yet to make comments on the report. Enditem
