Missing U.S. family found dead in Mexican beach resort Tulum

Xinhua,March 24, 2018 Adjust font size:

MEXICO CITY, March 23 (Xinhua) -- A four-member family from the United States was found dead on Friday at a condominium apartment in the beach resort of Tulum, in the Mexican Caribbean.

Police acted following the U.S. embassy's report that the family was missing. Relatives of the family contacted local authorities in the county of Creston, in the U.S. Midwestern state of Iowa, after they lost touch with the family on vacation on March 14-21.

Authorities said there were no signs of violence and the victims, a couple and their two children, showed no visible injuries, though the corpses were already decomposing.

"During the inspection, (the authorities) found no trace of violence on the bodies or in the room," the prosecutor's office of Quintana Roo state, where the resort is located, said in an online statement.

In the predawn hours, Tulum police found the bodies of the children in front of the television at the apartment inside a complex known as Tao Residences. The bodies of the couple were in the bedroom.

They were identified as Kevin Wayne Sharp, 41, Amy Marie Sharp, 38, Sterling Wayne Sharp, 12, and Adrianna Marie Sharp, 7.

The apartment involved was registered in the name of the man. Enditem
