BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed significantly lower on Friday following the U.S. decision to hike tariffs on China's steel and aluminum imports.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went down 3.39 percent to close at 3,152.76 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 4.02 percent lower at 10,439.99 points.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Friday.
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,865.22 down 11.65 points or 0.62 percent, and the Emas was at 13,060.66 down 99.39 points or 0.76 percent.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed lower by 43.37 points, or 0.69 percent, to a level of 6,210.69 on Friday.
Some 358,061 transactions were booked, involving 12.4 billion copies of shares with a value of 8.6 trillion rupiah (about 624.4 million U.S. Dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 761.760 points, or 2.45 percent, to 30,309.29 points on Friday.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks plummeted Friday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index tumbling more than 4 percent, as U.S. President Donald Trump's unilateral moves to impose higher tariffs on Chinese imports sparked widespread concerns about a potential trade war.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 974.13 points, or 4.51 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 20,617.86, marking its lowest closing level since Oct. 3.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) went down 2 percent or 69.98 points to close at 3421.39.
A total of 1.9 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.85 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.41 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 377 to 84.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 1,153.59 points on Friday, down 18.77 points, or 1.6 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.
About 261.957 million shares worth 7.757 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (345.45 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 75 stocks went up, 230 stocks fell down, while 33 stocks remained unchanged.
