11 soldiers killed as gunmen attack army checkpoint in N Nigeria

Xinhua,March 21, 2018 Adjust font size:

LAGOS, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Unidentified gunmen attacked an army checkpoint in northern Nigeria's Kaduna later on Tuesday, killing 11 soldiers, a security source told Xinhua Wednesday.

The attack took place in Birnin Gwari area of the state in what seems like a daring reprisal attack by gunmen suspected to be bandits loyal to the assassinated gang leader Buharin Daji, the source said.

The bodies of the slain soldiers have been dumped in a mortuary, the source added, noting that the attackers had earlier attacked Maganda District in the afternoon on a revenge mission over the killing of Daji where nine members of security volunteer groups were critically injured.

There has been no official confirmation from the military. Enditem
