THE HAGUE, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Ajax narrowed the gap with Dutch league leaders PSV after a 4-1 win against sc Heerenveen on Sunday.

PSV had a 10-point lead before the 27th match round, but suffered an astonishing 5-0 defeat at Willem II in Tilburg on Saturday. Ben Rienstra scored twice and Spanish striker Fran Sol produced a hattrick.

The 5-0 defeat against Willem II was PSV's biggest loss in the Eredivisie since November 22, 1964 (Ajax-PSV, 5-0).

Ajax had to win on Sunday to grab the last straw to win the championships, but had a difficult first half against sc Heerenveen. New captain Matthijs de Ligt headed in the opening goal, but Martin Odegaard. In the second half Nicolas Tagliafico, Donny van de Beek and David Neres handed Ajax the 4-1 victory.

Also on Sunday Feyenoord beat AZ 2-1 in a rehearsal for the Dutch Cup final to be played on April 22. Jean-Paul Boetius and Nicolai Jorgensen scored for the home team and Wout Weghorst made AZ's consolation goal in the final minute.

With seven match rounds remaining PSV now lead the Eredivisie table with 68 points, 7 points ahead of Ajax and 12 ahead of AZ. Enditem
