KAMPALA, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The International Netball Federation (INF) has named Uganda's captain Peace Proscovia as the first 2019 Netball World Cup ambassador.

"As we celebrate the International women's day, we have named Peace Proscovia our first ambassador for the 2019 Netball World Cup," said the world body on Thursday.

The player, who guided Uganda to win the 2017 Africa Netball Championship and qualify for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, said, "I am very happy to be named as the first ambassador for Netball World Cup 2019."

"Netball has brought me to a place I never dreamed of and it is a great honour to be part of this sport and represent my country at the highest level," said Proscovia, who also plays Basketball for Uganda's national team.

"Where I am now is because of netball so I am looking forward to working with the Netball World Cup team to show our wonderful sport at its best," she added.

Susan Ongom, President of the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) said, "This is good news because it will inspire our young girls to keep working hard."

The Netball World Cup will take place from July 12-21, 2019 at Liverpool's Echo Arena in England. Enditem
